NVIDIA Unveils 7-Inch Tegra Note 7 Tablet With Advanced Stylus

صورة
On the same day that Apple  announced the availability  of its much-anticipated  Retina iPad mini , NVIDIA and its U.S. partner EVGA unveiled its own 7-inch Android tablet called the EVGA Tegra Note 7. Equipped with a  Tegra 4  quad-core processor, a 1280x800 display, micro HDMI to connect to HD televisions, 16GB of storage and a 5-megapixel camera (along with a front-facing webcam), the $199 device offers a strong Android tablet alternative to the pricier Nexus 7 and Galaxy Note 8. EVGA claims that the device has the world’s first  HDR  camera in a tablet, a feature that could draw interest from those looking to use the Tegra Note 7 as their primary photo-taking device, rather than a smartphone or a standalone camera. Aside from its speedy processor and budget-friendly price, NVIDIA is focused on showing off the power of its stylus device. In an elaborate  demonstration video , NVIDIA compares the sensitivity and accuracy of its D...

Lenovo Yoga Tablet Grabs a Design From Sony's Reject Pile

صورة
Android Gets a Grip Lenovo's Yoga Tablet has a cylindrical grip that can also act as a stand in multiple "modes." On sale now, the Android 4.2 tablet comes in two sizes -- 8 and 10 inches -- costing $249 and $299, respectively. The Grip The grip makes some functions, such as reading, easier to do with one hand, although it makes the device less sleek overall. Tilt Mode When flipped around, the stand can hold up the tablet at a lower angle, although the upside-down Lenovo logo may bother some users. Two Sizes The smaller Yoga Tablet is significantly lighter than the 10-inch model; it is 1.33 pounds compared to 0.88 pounds. Hinge The stand is easy to flip out on the 8-inch model, but it's tighter on the 10-incher. Hold Mode This is the orientation where the grip benefits the most; unfortunately the camera app still puts the shutter along the bottom. Back View The back is nice and austere. Dolby Sound T...

Apple iPad Air Raises the Tablet Bar

Holding the Apple iPad Air Apple's iPad Air takes the tablets design to a new level of portability. At just one pound and 0.29 inch thick, the tablet is light enough to hold with just your fingertips. iPad Air Box The only notable thing about the iPad Air box is that it's smaller than any full-size iPad box that's come before it. iPad Air side view As you can see, the lock switch and volume buttons are still on the side. iPad Air Back Aside from the "space gray" aluminum, there's nothing remarkable about the back of the iPad Air. You can see the iSight camera in the upper left corner. iPad Air's iSight Camera This is pretty much the same camera you'll find on the previous iPad and on the iPhone 5C. iPad Air Top Edge The top edge features the 3.5mm audio jack, microphone opening and the power/sleep button. iPad Air Speakers and Lighting Port Another look at that very thin edge. iPad Air ...

Acer Already Has a Second-Gen 8-Inch Windows Tablet, the Iconia W4

صورة
Acer  just unveiled its  second  8-inch Windows tablet, the Iconia W4. The new tablet succeeds the  Iconia W3 , the first small-screen Windows tablet, which debuted in the summer. The big difference is the Iconia W4 will ship with  Windows 8.1  instead of the special version of Windows 8 that was on the W3. Windows 8.1 has explicit support for small-screen form factors (under 10 inches), whereas Acer had to work closely with  Microsoft  to get Windows 8 to work properly on the previous tablet. ike the W3, the Iconia W4 also packs an Intel processor, but this time it's the latest Atom "Bay Trail" chip, which bestows better battery life and graphics than its predecessor ("Clover Trail"). Either way, this is a PC that can run apps made for previous versions of Windows thanks the Intel architecture. Other specs include a 5-megapixel rear camera (plus a 2-megapixel one on the front), micro-USB, HDMI and a microSD slot. The tablet is very lig...

Intel CEO Says $99 Tablets Are Coming This Holiday Season

صورة
What a difference a few months make. Back in July, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich  predicted  we'd see tablets priced under $150 this holiday season. Now he's knocked $50 off that estimate. Speaking to analysts Tuesday following Intel's quarterly earnings release, Krzanich said he expects $99 tablets, $299 Haswell (Intel's latest microprocessor) laptops, and $349 two-in-one hybrid tablets and laptops. Last month Intel touted the  arrival of Bay Trail , its latest member of the Atom microprocessor family designed for tablets. Two years ago, Amazon shook up the tablet world when it released its first Kindle Fire tablet for a breakthrough $199 price. Have something to add to this story? Share it in the comments.
