After months of speculation,  Facebook  last week  acknowledged  that there was some decrease in the number of "younger teens" using the social network on a daily basis. Now an annual survey of 4,014 young people provides more proof that teens may be looking elsewhere. The Futures Company , a research consultancy, interviewed teens in July and found that 41.6% of those aged 12 to 15 said Facebook was their favorite website compared to 48% of teens overall. Last year, Facebook was the most popular site among 12- to 15-year-olds. The most popular site among all teens now is YouTube, according to the report. Fifty percent of teens surveyed cited YouTube as their favorite site versus 45.2% for Facebook. Instagram 's first ad hit feeds on Friday, offering the first official glimpse at what users can expect from advertisers moving forward. The ad comes from fashion designer  Michael Kors , and features a gold watch on the table next to delicate macarons. Instagram  promised last week  that ads were coming, and offered up a preview ad of its own to show users what to expect, but Friday's sponsored image is the first real ad to come across the platform. As of mid-morning on Friday, the ad had more than 65,000 Likes and more than 540 comments. Despite Instagram's heads-up last week (and  another announcement  earlier this month that ads were on the way), however, users took to the comments to voice their displeasure over the introduction of ads. he ad has not appeared on all user feeds, however. Facebook  may be adding to the list of things it knows about you. The social network is reportedly experimenting with new technology that tracks and collects data about a user's activity on the site, including cursor movements,  according to the  Wall Street Journal . The technology is being tested now with a small group of users. The data could be used in a number of different ways, from product development to advertising, Facebook analytics chief Ken Rudin told the  Journal . The technology can supposedly determine where a user is hovering his or her cursor on the screen, meaning it could be used to determine the most appropriate places for advertisements. The technology also tracks whether Facebook's mobile users can see their  News Feed  at any particular time from their smartphone. Facebook  stock surged to a new high in after hours trading after the company beat earnings estimates for the third quarter. Facebook reported earnings of $0.25 per share on revenue of $2.02 billion, coming in well ahead of Wall Street estimates for earnings of $0.19 per share on revenue of $1.91 billion. Facebook revenue for the quarter was up 60% from the $1.2 billion it earned a year earlier, thanks in part to continued growth in mobile ads. Mobile ads now account for 49% of Facebook's total ad revenue — or just under $900 million — up from 41% in the previous quarter and 30% in the first quarter, meaning Facebook is very close to being a truly  mobile-first company .
